Happy Labor Day week everyone! As the summer winds down this week (and hopefully the humidity too), do you have plans to soak up the last remaining relaxing days? That is, if you haven't gone back to school... Have dinner at an outdoor patio in NYC. Drinks on a roof deck. Take a relaxing ride on the East River Ferry. Just 4 bucks. Take a last dip at the newly reopened McCarren Park Pool. It closes Labor Day. Take the subway to the beach. Take the bus to the beach. Take a boat to the beach. Go to a street fair. Walk along the Hudson near Battery Park and drink iced coffees. See a movie in an icy-cold theater. And then have iced coffees. Walk on the High Line at dusk. What are your ideas?

Rumor has it, there's a major supply shortage of some of Good Humor Ice Cream's mainstays, just in time for summer. We're talking Toasted Almond. Chocolate Eclairs. Candy Center Crunch. Super bummer. Apparently this only affects ice cream trucks, and not supermarkets. So there's that.

Elmo with Mickey #1 (Fantasia Mickey)

It's still summer, and every tourist wants some sort of New York experience in Times Square. And it seems to me, the word is out amongst the "plush" community that tourists will pay to have their picture taken with any Mickey, Minnie or Elmo. It doesn't even have to look much like Mickey. (If you ask me, Mickey has to have a rounder head.) But tourists don't seem to mind.

Walking back from lunch yesterday, I saw more plush characters than ever before. I counted 3 Mickeys, 1 Minnie, 2 Elmos, 2 Cookie Monsters, 1 Woody, and even a Spiderman. Spidey offered me a free hug, but my own Spidey Sense told me to flee that situation.

So tourists, come to Broadway & 42nd Street to claim your summer Times Square New York-y experience. Just don't forget to put money in their tip bags.

Can you imagine a more heavenly swim as a New Yorker (or a visitor for that matter) than this? Swimming in a plus-shaped pool floating in the East River and gazing up at the iconic Brooklyn Bridge (and Manhattan Bridge for that matter). WOW! And it might actually even happen for realz. Have I got a great idea for you! It involves a free boat ride on the East River (totally awesome views of the Manhattan skyline, and all three bridges in Brooklyn), a free trip to an island and free bike riding! Do you like the sound of free? I do. So if you're not at work today, or next Friday, this is your chance to have an awesome time. Here's how:

The S.S. Yogi Berra

The brand new East River Ferry service launched this past Monday, giving free rides to all passengers from Monday, June 13 through Friday, June 24. I personally have taken the boat to work every single morning, and it has been great. Today, I figured out that they were giving away free coffee (hot or iced!). I had an iced, went up to the upper deck and enjoyed the view and the salty sea air. Note: The East River smells like the sea. So great.

So here's what I figured out just now. Take the Ferry from 34th Street in Manhattan, all the way to Governor's Island, for free. You can do that today or next Friday. After that, the fare will be $4 each way, or $140 for a monthly pass. Not exactly cheap. Governor's Island is a hilly, grassy, tree lined island with an interesting history. On Fridays only, you can rent bikes, free of charge for 1 hour between 10am and 3:30pm. Bikes must be returned by 4:30. Then take the free Ferry home! Doesn't that sound good? I totally want to do it.
