Is anyone watching this mini-show-let? (Produced by Alloy -- you know, the Delia's people! Well, related to the Delia's people anyway...) Each episode is just 9 minutes or so.

I think they got a Zooey Deschanel look-alike to play the lead. Shiri Appleby's character dresses semi-vintage, wears semi-dorky-looking glasses with otherwise beautiful long curly hair, and even rides a bike with a basket while talking on the phone. That's all pretty fine with me, because I like Zooey Deschanel.

Also, did you ever notice how all Alloy productions involve the cell phone as the main focal point of the story telling? And they always use shamelessly obvious product placement. Sometimes it seems like it's more a long commercial than a short show. But no matter. The characters are appealing. I totally admit to being hooked.

What. You've never seen this done before?

I love to wander into hotels and check out lobby decor. You can get a lot of great ideas for arranging your own apartment from hotels, especially in NYC. I think the most shocked and rewarded I've been recently was when I wandered into the Grace Hotel near Times Square. For weeks last summer, I would walk past the sign that said, "Room Mate Hotels" while sipping my three dollar fruit shake after lunch; until one day, I was like, okay, what is the deal with Room Mate Hotels? Do they make you have a stranger for a roommate to save money, or do they charge you double for making you have a roommate? It is New York after all. I wouldn't put it past them to charge you double.

So back to my shock upon entering. I was going to march up to the desk clerk and ask him, "What's the deal with the roommate angle?" but then I saw it. Just a bit past him, glowing mysteriously, was the most amazing urban oasis. Instead, I tentatively asked him, "May I take a look?" as if it would be a privilege to gaze at the wonder of the pool. Why do I get like that? I don't know. The pool was amazing! There was one lone kid sitting in it. So strange. Right next to a full bar. All I could think was, "This kid from Ohio must be having one weird vacation. When he goes back home, his town is going to be so boring. I'll bet his suburban mind is being blown." So was my Brooklyn mind. As a Pisces, I love a good pool. And that chlorine smell! I do admit to loving that too. I wonder what angle I have to work to swim there at lunch?

The rest of the collections are around the corner. We just finished with Market Week here in New York where we showed Spring/Summer deliveries to all our stores, and it was a great success!

Yes, I know. We just got finished with a few major holidays. But we in fashion are always thinking ahead. Valentine's Day is coming! And before you know it, it'll be too late to wear anything cool or plan anything cool because you didn't start thinking about it early enough. That's where we come in. Giving you that little nudge in the right direction.

We thought these theme party ideas [pictured above] were the cutest! They're from the Hostess with the Mostess blog. Worth a read, for sure. If you want to take the pressure off a "date situation" and pursue someone you like, invite your friends and turn it into a group party. (We are loving the powdered donuts on the cake plate!!) Next we'll tell you some cute outfits you can consider for your Valentine's hostessing duties. :-)

The sad word on the street is Hostess, maker of those American classic snack cakes -- Twinkies, Ding Dongs, Cupcakes, Ho Hos, Sno Balls -- is planning to file for bankruptcy this week. How could this have happened? Hostess is more apple pie than Mom. But it gets worse. According to Time Magazine, "The company, which also makes Wonder Bread and the Drake's line of snack cakes, has more than $860 million in debt," and this is their second Chapter 11 filing in less than a decade.

It's time to start hoarding, people! Maybe together as a nation, we can help bail out Hostess, Wonder Bread and Drake's, and save our childhood lunchbox institutions. It's worth a try!

This is such a cool lunchbox! Especially if you bring salads to work, which I do. I love the color. I love the material. I love that it comes with a separate dressing container.

How do some people think of such good ideas? I have party envy every time I look at Hostess with the Mostess blog. I look at the ideas and think, I wish I could throw a party a week. But I don't even own a pedestal cake plate. So many beautiful presentations! I am in awe. I especially love the cupcake candelabras. I would have never thought of that in a million years.
