see this movie!

Bill Cunningham! New York Times Style Section! See this movie. I'm planning to see it on Saturday night! It proves to be really great. I have seen him riding his bicycle around NYC countless times, and each time I see him, I am so pleased. It is so obvious from his demeanor that he loves what he does for a living.

coolhaus rocks

And the good news is...

Our Sales Team is in LA for LA Market this week. Apparently the show started today, and apparently it's raining in LA. Well, that is a bummer. It's raining here in NYC too (which is a bigger bummer if you ask me, because, well, I'm in NYC...) But anyway, when the sun doesn't shine in LA, it just isn't pretty. People don't tend to function normally. The roads become super-slippery! Well at least there is still Coolhaus! Our favorite ice cream sandwich, for sure.

boom boom doesn't come for free?

A little Boom Boom doesn't come with the room anymore at The Standard hotel in NYC. Hotel guests used to get it until 9pm; but as of July 13, they won't be getting any Boom Boom at all. What? The only ones who will be getting any Boom Boom will be those who will pay dearly to be a member of this elitist club when it reopens later this year. What? No Boom Boom? At all?

Well, sorry folks, that's what we read on Hotel Chatter. I don't think people are too happy about it either, judging from this comment [excerpt]:

I stay in 'trendy' hotels so I can party in them too. If I want to be on the outside of a cool hotel party lounge, I can stay at home and watch celebs on the 'red carpet' at home for free.

Take that The Standard. Or don't. You probably won't, will you. Nope, we didn't think so.

sprinkles cupcakes

Let's try a little word association:

Los Angeles
Sprinkles Cupcakes

Yup, me too. And that icing! How do they get their icing to look so darn mouth-wateringly delicious? I wonder if our sales team is ordering Sprinkles to the Dollhouse LA Market showroom right now? They could send someone to the store in Beverly Hills on 9635 Little Santa Monica Boulevard to pick some up. Or they can order online. I hope they get the Red Velvet.

katsuya is full of stars

Katsuya, a Japanese chic (or shi shi) sushi place designed by Philippe Starck with four tony locations in the Los Angeles area is where our sales team will be dining on Monday night. And we who are left behind are a bit jealous. I mean, yes they do have to do all the work selling the Dollhouse line to all the major stores, and yes, they certainly MORE than deserve a great meal with Brad Pitt and Kim Kardashian (at nearby tables), but that doesn't mean we don't have to be a bit envious, no?

Check out Katsuya here. Have you been? It looks and sounds fab. We here can only imagine.

did you say dosa?

By now, you know me with my Friday cupcake stories on this blog, where as I write them, I usually get such an overwhelming urge to eat a cupcake that I can barely concentrate on finishing the post. So I thought I'd switch gears this Friday, from sweet to savory. Spicy even. And since we did our first "Things to do in LA" post this week, I thought we should do a second. Just to keep the attention of our Pacific Time Zone friends. Don't fret New Yorkers. We have a "Things to do in NYC" regular feature too. Okay, so here goes.

Attention Angelenos! Have you ever had a dosa? Well be prepared to be dazzled. There is a Dosa Truck which parks at the beach. Which beach you ask? Ocean Avenue and Colorado North. Or Main Street at Venice near Exhale. Follow the Dosa Truck on Twitter to stay up to date! And how cool is this? The owner of the Dosa Truck a woman from Brooklyn.

For those who haven't sampled this tasty treat, a dosa is a vegetarian South Indian ultra-thin crun-chewy lentil crepe that is rolled up, often stuffed with spicy potatoes and served with coconut chutney, coriander chutney and sambar (a spicy lentil soup that is heavenly). You can have one for lunch or dinner, or a snack if you are extra hungry. One is enough to fill you up. So deeee-licious. The LA Dosa Truck has interesting East-meets-West variations. Check out the menu here.

We have a dosa cart in New York too. We call him The Dosa Man. He serves his classic South Indian 100% vegetarian dosas in Washington Square Park in the Village. He is a very nice man.

Happy street food eating everyone! And happy Friday.

coolhaus melts our hearts

We have been loving the vibe at Coolhaus lately. We religiously follow their Twitter feed, even though we're in NYC and they're in LA. The concept behind their ice cream sandwiches and their food truck is genius. Ice cream sandwiches based on architecture! Retro California-style 50s architecture that is. The best!

It seems that the actual sandwich includes a sloping roof -- made from a hand-cut cookie. Mmmm hand-cut cookie. But I wonder if it includes a chimney? They could make it out of a marshmallow...

If I were in LA right now, I would totally sample the "Mintimalism" (chocolate cookie, mint chip ice cream). However, title-wise, my favorite is the "Mies Vanilla Rohe" because who doesn't love Mies van der Rohe, master of Modern architecture?

Or I could just say, "Dollhouse loves Coolhaus." Direct and to the point.
