free sweets!

Now hear this, Garment Workers! Free hot chocolate & biscotti from 1-3pm, courtesy of Food Network Magazine and the Sweetery Truck (formerly Street Sweets). They'll be parked on 33rd Street between 6th & 7th Aves. Sure it's a bit of a walk, and the temps are less than pleasant, but it's free biscotti!!! Totally worth it. (Speaking of biscotti, maybe I'll just go buy one at that coffee place on 7th & 39th. What's it called again? Well you know the place I mean.)

carpe cake-um!

I don't know about you, but during the 3:00 sugar hour, I like to browse what the gals who eat everything and anything sweet (and finish every last bite) are eating. Yes, I am talking about Blondie and Brownie. I think I finally tracked down a pic of these two happy food bloggers -- you know, to see if they are what they eat... And you know what? They're not! They are perfectly thin and trim. Is this un-PC to say? Well, they do defy normal metabolism, so color me fascinated.

And so concludes today's food for thought. In the form of a cute marshmallow-y smiley-faced cupcake. Oh, just one more thing if you happened to read their accompanying blog post that goes with the cupcake. Are you guys so over food trucks in NYC? I kinda am. There are just too many of them these days.

*Carpe cake-um, the title of this post, is a genius phrase coined by Blondie and Brownie. Yes they are masters of the dessert world.

free wafels for all wafel artists

Good news, we didn't miss National Waffle Day, because it's today! And National Waffle Day means free Belgian wafels from our friendly neighborhood Wafels and Dinges truck (dinges means toppings, but don't ask me how to pronounce dinges).

To get your free wafel, there's a slight catch. But not too much of a catch. All you have to do is draw a picture of their wafel truck or a wafel (the Belgian kind they serve, not the Eggo kind) and show up at the truck on 52nd Street (Lex/3rd Avenues) between now and 4:30pm. Got it? I know, I am confused too. But here, let's check their Twitter @waffletruck to confirm. See you there!

Browsing one of our favorite food sites, Midtown Lunch, we spied this crazy creation. Dessert Nachos. And apparently they are available this afternoon from the Treats Truck which is parked on _______. Well, check their Twitter @TheTreatsTruck for the exact location just to be sure. And hurry, because Dessert Nachos will only be available today (Wednesday) through Friday. Please let the rain not cancel the fun.

Vinny Vincenz Mobile Pizza!

In the Garment District, you can find the truck parked on 40th
near the corner of 6th Avenue

Come summer, there are so many food truck options in New York, it is ridiculous. But Vinny Vincenz seems to operate year-round. In the Garment District, you can find Vinny parked on 40th Street between Broadway and 6th Avenue. Opinions greatly vary on the taste. Have you tried it? What do you guys think?

and now, a sweet treat for the new yorkers who didn't go to magic

Equal opportunity snacking is what we stand for here at Dollhouse. Earlier we posted for our Dollhouse sales team currently at MAGIC about a great cupcake spot that delivers all over Las Vegas. Half our company is at MAGIC as we speak (booth #JR2600), showing all the great new styles from Dollhouse. The other half is here in NYC, thinking about snacking as 3pm approaches. Miss Softee to the rescue. Yes you read that right. Miss not Mister. If you love the sweet/salty combo, and who doesn't, Miss Softee is currently at 40th & 5th selling today's special: Potato Chip Choco Dip Cone. I know! Are our eyes deceiving us? We'll just have to walk over and sample for ourselves.

did you say dosa?

By now, you know me with my Friday cupcake stories on this blog, where as I write them, I usually get such an overwhelming urge to eat a cupcake that I can barely concentrate on finishing the post. So I thought I'd switch gears this Friday, from sweet to savory. Spicy even. And since we did our first "Things to do in LA" post this week, I thought we should do a second. Just to keep the attention of our Pacific Time Zone friends. Don't fret New Yorkers. We have a "Things to do in NYC" regular feature too. Okay, so here goes.

Attention Angelenos! Have you ever had a dosa? Well be prepared to be dazzled. There is a Dosa Truck which parks at the beach. Which beach you ask? Ocean Avenue and Colorado North. Or Main Street at Venice near Exhale. Follow the Dosa Truck on Twitter to stay up to date! And how cool is this? The owner of the Dosa Truck a woman from Brooklyn.

For those who haven't sampled this tasty treat, a dosa is a vegetarian South Indian ultra-thin crun-chewy lentil crepe that is rolled up, often stuffed with spicy potatoes and served with coconut chutney, coriander chutney and sambar (a spicy lentil soup that is heavenly). You can have one for lunch or dinner, or a snack if you are extra hungry. One is enough to fill you up. So deeee-licious. The LA Dosa Truck has interesting East-meets-West variations. Check out the menu here.

We have a dosa cart in New York too. We call him The Dosa Man. He serves his classic South Indian 100% vegetarian dosas in Washington Square Park in the Village. He is a very nice man.

Happy street food eating everyone! And happy Friday.

coolhaus melts our hearts

We have been loving the vibe at Coolhaus lately. We religiously follow their Twitter feed, even though we're in NYC and they're in LA. The concept behind their ice cream sandwiches and their food truck is genius. Ice cream sandwiches based on architecture! Retro California-style 50s architecture that is. The best!

It seems that the actual sandwich includes a sloping roof -- made from a hand-cut cookie. Mmmm hand-cut cookie. But I wonder if it includes a chimney? They could make it out of a marshmallow...

If I were in LA right now, I would totally sample the "Mintimalism" (chocolate cookie, mint chip ice cream). However, title-wise, my favorite is the "Mies Vanilla Rohe" because who doesn't love Mies van der Rohe, master of Modern architecture?

Or I could just say, "Dollhouse loves Coolhaus." Direct and to the point.

and it was delicious!

Similar to my choco-wafel. Yum!
Why did I forget my camera today?? Oh well.

Thank you Wafels & Dinges for the free Belgian wafel with delicious chocolate sauce!! I waited for only about 25 minutes. It was fun. I was glad to be a part of it. I especially loved the good-natured and very funny Medieval King with the strange unidentifiable accent. (I am guessing it was faux Belgian.) I also was amused by the way the New Yorkers pretended not to pay attention to him. New Yorkers can be so jaded. What_ever. Just laugh you jaded people. It will make you happier!

Thank you Wafels & Dinges. You are a great food truck in my book.

Who doesn't love sweet treats? And free sweet treats at that! You may have seen the bright yellow Wafels & Dinges truck at a street corner near you, serving up delicious Belgian treats (wafels) topped with more delicious treats (dinges). If you are a fan or a curious new customer, you will be pleased to learn that Wafels & Dinges has added new wheels to its fleet. ice cream on every street corner

Great graphics.

I think this truck dates back to the 50s. So great!

The Ice Cream Man! On 39th and Broadway in the Garment District.
Photographed today!

The most amazing thing about Midtown in the summer is that there is an ice cream truck (Mister Softee!), it seems, on every street corner. Ice cream everywhere. It seems like heaven to me. And a cone with sprinkles is only $2! People say New York is expensive. Hah.

Although it is not summer today, the Ice Cream Men are back. Check out two trucks in the Garment District: 39th and Broadway is $2 for a cone; 41st St and 6th Avenue is $3 for a cone. It pays to comparison shop...
